Essay Topic:
Use the Psychological Criticism on pages 689-693 of our text.  Choose a story from the list below and analyze how point of view contributes to the story's overall meaning.  Discuss the narrator's psychology and speculate "on what lies underneath the text -- the unspoken or perhaps even unspeakable memories, motives, and fears that covertly shape the work."  Come up with a thesis sentence, and back up your argument with specific observations about the text.  Incorporate at least five quotations, and document them, as explained in the writing chapters at the end of the book.
